11/25/12 - Nov 21st, 1980 the original MGM fire kills 87 people, injures 700.  It's still the worst hotel fire in Nevada history. 3 months later, the Las Vegas Hilton had fire with casualties as well.  These two fires would cause Las Vegas to implement the toughest fire-safety regulations in the country.  There hasn't been a fire-related death at a strip resort since. (Las Vegas Sun)
