8/5/12 - Since 2000, it’s illegal to bet on the Olympics in Nevada. That began when an initiative was lead by John McCain to outlaw collegiate sports betting. Not wanting that to happen, Nevada made a compromise to not allow betting on all other amateur sports, including the Olympics. While professional athletes do compete in the Olympics, they aren’t paid to do so and therefore still fall under that Olympic Umbrella. The truth is, it wasn’t much of a compromise because the Olympics were never a popular thing to gamble on anyway. (Vegas Chatter)
